7 Ways to Pack an Easy, More Eco-Friendly Lunch

Most people already pack a lunch for school and/or work. It can be prepped ahead of time, a pb&j sandwich, or even leftovers from the meal before. In any of those cases, there are ways for you to make your packed lunches more eco-friendly. Check out these 7 easy and simple ways to pack a lunch with more care for our Earth.

First, what food to pack in our lunches:

1. Avoid individually wrapped items. Buy in bulk when possible. Bulk items often cost a little less, plus it produces less packaging to be thrown away!

2. Purchase fruits and vegetables that are in season. They are cheaper because they did not have to travel as far to get to the store and are more abundant. (Also fresher and probably taste better!)

3. Check out locally sourced food items as well! Support the small business owners, when possible. Check out a local farmers market for great produce!

Second, how to pack our lunches:

1. (It's a big one!) Avoid one use plastic bags. Try reusable containers or bees wax wraps. Click the image below for more information from beeswrap.com who specialize in sustainable food storage.

2. Use a reusable water bottle. It's cute, trendy, and easy to fill up on the go! (Save the turtles!)

3. Reusable utensils are also a must! The number of times I have packed a lunch and forgotten silverware? Countless. I keep a set in my desk at work. In my backpack, I have a fork and spoon combo just in case!

4. Try a reusable, washable cloth napkins. While they are not as convenient when on the go, it would be nice to be able to have a reusable napkin at home or at work. Throw it in with your laundry and you're good to go!

While these are not HUGE changes, they will start to make a difference. Happy eating!
